EQAO and literacy test coaching

The EQAO is the provincial Education Equality and Accountability Office. It is an independent government body that develops and oversees reading, writing and mathematics tests that Ontario students must take in Grades 3, 6, and 9.

The tests give parents, teachers, principals and school boards information about how well students have learned what the province expects them to learn in reading, writing and mathematics.

What is an EQAO test and do I have to take it?

The test was developed to figure out the quality of education that Ontario's students are getting.

Yes you have to take this test. Every student in Ontario has to take the EQAO test. If you are in:
  • Grades 3 and 6, EQAO tests your skills in mathematics, writing, and reading.
  • Grade 9, EQAO tests math only.

The EQAO test will not affect your school marks, but you should make a good effort when writing your EQAO tests.

The results help the government make improvements to the school system.

Literacy

Why is OSSLT (Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test)

The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) measures whether or not students are meeting the minimum standard for literacy across all subjects up to the end of Grade 9. Successful completion of the literacy test is one of the requirements to earn an Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
